Building Strong Sustainable Communities
About Our Civic Council
The Central Islip Civic Council is a non-profit, community-based housing agency dedicated to improving the quality of life for all residents of Central Islip and surrounding areas for the past 50 years. The Central Islip Civic Council maintains The Historic Heines Homestead buildings and grounds where we offer “A Step Back in Time” academic schoolhouse program, educational workshops, and affordable housing for families and seniors. We have an emergency food pantry for our Central Islip residents with summer vegetables provided by our very own garden. We also sponsor free recreational activities, and cultural and holiday events. Our grounds offer a walking trail, lovely trees, flower gardens, and a vegetable garden. During the warmer season, families can enjoy seeing our chickens, turkey, sheep, and calf. While visiting us you can walk about and see old historical buildings. We have a blacksmith shop from 1903, a one-room schoolhouse replica from 1861, our houses, and a country store which helps us to provide funds that are put back into our emergency food pantry.
